Al Wakrah

Old pearling town by the sea

About 15km south of Doha, Al Wakrah grew from a fishing and pearling village into a city of more than 80,000 that still keeps more traditional wind towers than anywhere else on the peninsula. Souq Al Wakrah, opened in late 2014 right on the beach, strings more than 100 craft shops and waterfront restaurants along 3km of heritage village and corniche, with Zaha Hadid's dhow sail shaped Al Janoub Stadium inland.
